JOSEPHINE MEURS 100TH BIRDAY PARTY

Dear Friends: I would like to share a joyous occasion with you. Our dear CLW sister, Josephine Meurs just celebrated her 100th birthday! She made it through World War II and the Nazis in German occupied Netherlands, so I think she is handing this pandemic as nothing new.

I have to tell you a story about Josephine.

Some time back, our parish was faced with a tragic death. Because this affected so many people, we knew that we, the CWL,would be handling the largest funeral reception our parish ever held. So, it was all hands on deck for us. I asked our sisters if they could help out and the response was heart warming. I saw Josephine and kind of hesitated to ask her to help since I knew the reception would last for many hours and she was not the youngest amongst us!

Still, I asked her if she could help and she said "yes". She stood there and thought a moment and added, "I live close, so I will walk down to the church and let someone else have my parking spot." That's the kind of person Josephine is.

Well Jospehine was as good as her word and worked really hard for about four hours. Then she said she was tired (we were just cleaning up at that point) and proceed to walk back home.

I was so impressed by Josephine. Not much later I was talking to her good friend, Cynthia and mentioned Josephine. I said that she has to be in her late '70's. "No, " Cynthia said. "I think she's in her nighties!" I was stunned and couldn't accept that as her age. So, when I asked Josephine her real age, she said she was 92 but if you really wanted to see an active person, I should meet her older sister!

That's Josephine for you.

I want to share a procession the CWL and her family organized for her on April 15, 2021. Please enjoy the photos and the movie on our Diocese of Victoria Facebook page.
