CTK CWL COUNCIL MARKS THE LEAGUE'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY

As the Catholic Women’s League of Canada, we commemorated our 100th anniversary…. last year! At Christ the King, we planned to plant a tree as a lasting tribute to mark the occasion.  Unfortunately, that didn’t happen in 2020.  With the COVID pandemic cancelling all plans, and the fact the tree we wanted was not available, our plans were postponed to this year.

We are still in the midst of the pandemic but our tree was available, so our president, Pat Ellis, organized a social-distanced tree planting with a small group of council Executive members.  The event began with all of us praying the CWL League Prayer.  Following the prayer, Father David gave a solemn blessing on the tree, sprinkling the tree (and all present) with holy water.  The extra holy water was given to the tree ― now watch it grow!   We all sprinkled or shovelled dirt in the hole to fill in the tree.  After praying the Prayer to our Lady of Good Counsel, we had a group picture, and a few moments of distanced socializing before departing.

The tree is a very full dogwood and is planted near the grotto of Our Lady.  Please take the time to wander around the back of the church to the grotto, admire our little tree, and spend a few moments in prayer with Our Lady during the month of May.

Special thanks to Mike, our Parish caretaker, for digging the hole, and to Mike, Donna’s husband, for taking the pictures.
