Dear Sisters-in-Christ and Father Alfredo:
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven” Ecclesiastes 3.1
As we prepare for Easter, we are hopefully taking time to reflect on our lives and making some adjustments to our busyness so that we can fully appreciate this time of Lent. I will try to not burden you with a lot of ‘stuff’ but I do need to remind you of a few of the activities that will require your action.
First of all, thank you for your participation at our interim meeting in March. The workshops were excellent and showcased the depth of experience and knowledge of our Diocesan team, and your input showed your dedication to our League values of faith, service and social justice.
1. Diocesan Convention, May 2-3, St. Patrick’s, Campbell River
A reminder that the deadline for the $35 registration fee is March 31, so please ensure you have sent in your registration for the diocesan convention. The registration fee increases to $50 after April 1st. The full registration package was mailed to all councils in February and is also on the www.cwldov.org website. The team at St. Patrick’s look forward to hosting you for the convention.
As you will see on the attached overview of the agenda, on Wednesday, May 1st, the diocesan team (diocesan executive and parish council presidents or their designates) will meet for the pre-convention executive meeting, starting with dinner at 5:30 pm. The convention will start at 9 am on Thursday, May 2nd and end with the celebration of the Eucharist at 3 pm on Friday, May 3rd.
ACTION: Diocesan executive will present their ideas at the pre-convention meeting and parish presidents (or their designate) will present at the convention. We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas, and plans. Keeping in mind our national theme, Caring for our Common Home and our diocesan theme, Solid Rock, Living Waters, when preparing your 3-minute oral presentation, please respond to the following question: What do these themes mean to me and, and what can I (and/or my Council) DO in 2019 to bring the theme(s) to life? A great resource is Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si’, and websites such as www.water.org.
2. Provincial Convention, June 13-15, Coast Bastion Hotel and St. Peter’s, Nanaimo
The registration package for the provincial convention has been mailed to all parish presidents but the complete package is also at www.bcyukoncwl.com. To save paper, please access the registration package online. All the information – including online registration – is available on that site.
Thank you to those of you who already donated items for the silent auction and door prizes.
ACTION: We are still looking for items to help raise funds at our auction. Some ideas you might consider are: soliciting local merchants for tickets for events such as plays and concerts, restaurant dinners, or auctioning off hosting a dinner at your house or offering your home as a B&B. All contributions will be gratefully accepted. If you need the item(s) to be picked up, please let me know.
3. Provincial Subsidy to attend Provincial Convention
A $500 subsidy is available to two (2) members from each of the six (6) dioceses, to include one member of the diocesan executive and one general member (this member may also be on diocesan executive), neither of whom is having their way fully paid by another level of the League, to attend the upcoming provincial convention. Deadline for application is May 10.
ACTION: Do take advantage of this opportunity by completing the application on the www.bcyukoncwl.com website (under convention forms). Send application by May 10 to Sharon Geiger, Provincial Organization Chair, sjwgeiger@hotmail.com.
