On Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Ascension  CWL Pot Luck dinner, Maureen Dawson, Bursary Chair, awarded the $1000 Bursary prize to Anet Scaria, who graduated from Ballenas high school in Parksville.

The 2019 – 2021 CWL Executive at St. Patrick’s Victoria were installed by Fr. William Hann on June 4, 2019, with the help of Past President Paulina Scherr. We are a faith-filled group of dedicated women who truly enjoy being a part of the Catholic Women’s League.

This bursary of $750 is awarded to a child or grandchild of a member of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Victoria and has been in effect since 2005. We received a total of six applications from Victoria, Parksville, Courtenay, and Campbell River. Each student’s narrative essay told their ‘story’: specifying interests, extra-curricular activities, revealing future dreams and aspirations, and showing involvement in church and community.

St. Mary’s CWL recently celebrated their 85th Anniversary at their Spring Tea. There were several tables set up with archives and memorabilia for new and long-time members to peruse. They enjoyed a luncheon of fancy sandwiches, dessert dainties, and—of course—tea!

“I thought that all the preparations the Christa and others are doing are a bit like Jesus on the shore cooking breakfast and making sure everything is ready to greet the disciples as they get off the boat. Then I thought how the CWL members attending the convention were there to try to improve the society we live in.”
