Dear Sisters-in-Christ and Father Alfredo:

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven” Ecclesiastes 3.1

As we prepare for Easter, we are hopefully taking time to reflect on our lives and making some adjustments to our busyness so that we can fully appreciate this time of Lent. I will try to not burden you with a lot of ‘stuff’ but I do need to remind you of a few of the activities that will require your action.

First of all, thank you for your participation at our interim meeting in March. The workshops were excellent and showcased the depth of experience and knowledge of our Diocesan team, and your input showed your dedication to our League values of faith, service and social justice.

As I look out the window and see the tiny buds on the trees and spring flowers poking through the earth, I am so grateful to be living on our Rock. Grateful for the weather and grateful for all of you!

Planning is happening all around—for the upcoming Interim meeting on March 4, the Diocesan convention May 1 – 3 and the Provincial convention June 12 – 15. Here is an update on all three, along with some very important ACTION items:

First of all, I want to introduce our new Victoria Diocesan theme: Solid Rock, Living Waters. This theme is based on Psalm 62.1: “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken.” And on John 7:37-38: “ … ”Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, “Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.” As an Island Diocese, we are living on the Rock, surrounded by water! We will use this theme as a foundation for our efforts.

Dear Sisters-in-Christ:

I can’t believe that it has been two months since our Diocesan Convention. If you need a refresher on what we accomplished there, take a few minutes and go to cwldov.org and check out the Meeting Reports section and read what Military Ordinariate member Marlene O’Hanley said about our convention. And, while you’re there, you can read my review of the Provincial Convention in Whitehorse. Both Conventions gave me the opportunity to witness the amazing work of the sisters in our League. When I jumped in to chair the Diocesan Convention I appreciated the guidance of so many of you as you stepped forward to help me through it. Whitehorse, under Carol Vanderbyl’s leadership, pulled off an amazing Provincial Convention with a very small team of dedicated members. I am looking forward to working with you when we host the Convention in Nanaimo.

Summer Planning Session – Saturday, July 14, 2018 at All Saint's Parish (formerly St. Mary’s) in Ladysmith

I hope that those of you who have taken on new responsibilities as Executives and Chairs of Standing Committees have had a chance to familiarize yourselves with your new responsibilities by reviewing your portfolio’s duties in the Executive Handbook (cwl.ca) and have had discussions with the person who held the position before.  At our planning session, our focus will be on better understanding our Victoria Diocesan Council’s needs by evaluating what’s working and what’s not and to draft a plan to take us forward. 

ACTION for ALL DIOCESAN OFFICERS AND PARISH PRESIDENTS:

Please bring all your ideas (and a bag lunch) to All Saint's Parish (formerly St. Mary’s) at 1135 – 4th Avenue, Ladysmith from 10-3 on Saturday, July 14th. If you cannot attend to represent your parish council, please send a delegate. We want to make sure all voices are heard. (Draft Agenda is being sent via email attachment).

President's Message #1

I started my journey as President of the Victoria Diocesan CWL Council at our Convention at the beginning of May. I have been preparing for this job for the past two years as President-Elect. However, I was prepared to take over the position after the Convention, not prior to the Convention when our dear President, Maureen, had to resign due to ill health. Thanks to the wonderful convention team in Victoria and the support of my sisters in the League, we were able to pull off a great Convention. 

President's Report Communique #8

This Communique was written five weeks ago and not sent. Too much horizontal sick time. Thank you for your lovely cards, flowers, Masses celebrated and for your phone calls and visits to Dwain while he is in hospital. He will likely be in hospital for a while yet. It is your love which inspires action while I feel more akin to a sloth.

I do appreciate those who filled in for me when there was a task needed to be done sooner, not later. I hesitate to mention names as that is a guarantee to forget a team member.
